PASQAL designs and develops Quantum Processing Units and dedicated software tools. These innovative processors address applications which are out of the reach of the most powerful existing supercomputers, encompassing real-world challenges as well as fundamental science. As they are very low energy intensive, they will significantly contribute to reduce the carbon footprint of the computing industry.
PASQAL has partnerships with key users in such fields as energy, IT, finance, drug and chemical design, and automotive. The maturity and potential of our technology and the quality of our scientific team has been rewarded several times at French, European and global levels.
The Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS) is seeking applications for a position as Professor in Applied Quantum Computing. This is a full-time non-tenure track position in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering. This role will be directly hired by the University as a University employee. This role will be onsite at the University of Sherbrooke main campus.
This is an open disciplinary search in Quantum Applications and Algorithms; any candidate with research, scholarship, and teaching expertise in this area is encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be appointed to one of the Departments in the Faculty of Science, depending on specific expertise and candidate preference.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will secure external funding and develop an active research program with a focus on the application and/or development of quantum algorithms on PASQAL Neutral Atom Quantum Computers. The research program must be high quality, impactful, and align with PASQAL and the University of Sherbrooke’s initiatives to position Sherbrooke as an international leader in development and applications of Neutral Atom quantum-based solutions.
The successful candidate will interact positively within the diverse research environment within the Faculty of Science and the University of Sherbrooke while taking advantage of access to state-of-the-art core infrastructure. You will work to establish collaborative opportunities that enhance and develop either transdisciplinary or external partnerships. You will develop algorithms and applications for short and long term use of neutral atom quantum computers for industrial applications while maintaining an active profile in your area of expertise.
This role will play an important part in teaching and research supervision of students in relevant undergraduate and graduate programs. To be successful in this role, you will have plans to develop high-quality supervision or mentorship with a focus on preparing students for their desired future career. You will also be prepared to teach courses in your home department and/or related programs commensurate with your expertise and current teaching needs of the University of Sherbrooke.
Other Responsibilities
- Lead research activities in the field of applied quantum computing based on Pasqal's neutral atom QPU technology.
- Publish findings.
- Establish industry collaboration, in particular with (future) end user's of Neutral Atom quantum computing
- Write grant applications
- Network and collaborate with the network of HPC and QC experts and end users
- Public engagement
- Stay up to date with industry trends and academic advancements
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants must hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to proposed field of study and have hands on experience in complex, quantum algorithms
-or-
must have a combination of relevant equivalent education and at least three years of relevant industry experience in quantum algorithms.
- Applicants must have a strong record of impactful research in their field of expertise and demonstrate an ability to teach at the university level.
- Applicants must be willing to work on NISQ algorithms, real-world and industry relevant applications and algorithms, as well as work on FTQC.
- A background in quantum computing for optimization and machine learning is preferred.
- Good knowledge of QUANTUM computing algorithms and machine learning (QML)
- Understanding of data structures, data modeling and software architecture
- Deep knowledge of math, probability, statistics and algorithms
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal in English and French
